Our Work

Ground Control
Carried out on foot, this method requires a team of hardy contractors in the field.
The removal / killing of the pine with ground control can be carried out in many inventive ways:
-
Hand pulling
-
Sawing / Lopping
-
Drill and Fill
-
Chainsaw
With ground control operations we do apply herbicide on the cut trunk to ensure its imminent death.

This method is used when the infestation is sparse on manageable terrain or if there is vulnerable vegetation within the controlled area.

Aerial Control
We call in the helicopters when the spread reaches a virtual limit or is densely packed.
There are two main control methods used.
This is a type of Aerial spot spraying used to treat individual trees/noxious weeds by using “Basal Bark mixture”.
The helicopter hovers over the self-seeded pine.
The mixture is applied by a passenger inside the helicopter who uses a wand to ‘Chemically Ringbark’ tree trunks, wetting the complete circumference of the trunk or lower stems.

The tree will absorb the mixture and naturally rot away.
It is the most efficient way to control scattered wildings in difficult-access areas or within high-value vegetation.

When the infestation is dense, helicopters are used to deliver herbicides known as Aerial Foliar Spray Application (AFSA).

Unlike the targeted ABBA control method, this is a boom spray and is only used when an infestation is large and dense.
Conditions must be optimal to ensure the operation is precise and well away from waterways and the area assessed to ensure there is minimal risk or damage to need by vegetation.

This is relatively new technology to come to the conifer control toolkit.
While still in the development stage the industry can see the potential with drones.
Cheaper than a helicopter, able to access hard to reach areas and able to operate autonomously, it takes a human out of the field.
